At Impressive Talent, we are very concerned about the usage of artificial intelligence in the entertainment area. This new process can and has affected some of our talent in a variety of ways. The biggest issues with AI are:
- The use of AI can and has been used to upend the amount of pay a talent should be earning for being seen or heard on any sort of media.
- Some clients are choosing to duplicate a person’s voice or identity without informing said talent and using their identities in situations that are not the direction a talent may wish to go, like porn, R or X rated movies, digital scans either original or edited to use in appropriate venues and many other issues.
- The only safe way for any talent to work artificial intelligence is to have a very detailed contract stating said use, start date, end date and a large amount of compensation depending on the actual usage.
In the end, a talent needs to be compensated for any and all usage they appear or speak in no matter what the project may be. When hiring a talent, you do not just hire a talent for the day, you have the usage, which can be for radio, television, film, commercials, animation, audio books or many other venues.
Our hope for the future is that there will be pre-determined rules and waivers that clients who use this technology must abide by. In the meantime, never sign off to do work for an unknown AI project without reviewing a contract carefully or hiring a legal representative to review the details of the job with you. In the recent past we have had some clients approach us requesting unlimited AI from talent. With few details, I’ve started my bids at $300,000.00, but until the details are revealed, my bid could go much hire. What is the value of your voice or likeness to be used anywhere, forever, without approval?
